Bring Patterns for Makers into the classroom.
My own love of woodworking began in a seventh-grade woodshop class, so I especially love the idea of my designs finding their way into other classrooms.
Patterns for Makers combine step-by-step instruction with opportunities for students to make their own creative choices along the way. Depending on the project, students can practice skills such as measuring and layout, reading plans and templates, scroll saw cutting, joinery and assembly, sanding and finishing, project planning, problem-solving, and creative design.
Rather than simply recreating my finished piece, students can also be encouraged to change the materials, colors, details, or even the function of the design, using the pattern as a starting place for something of their own.
